This seminar will explore the introduction and management of animals in the therapeutic space. While this is becoming a more popular practice across the psychotherapeutic community, there has been little discussion on the ethics of the practice. The seminar will feature three presenters who have extensive clinical experience in working with animals in the therapeutic space and will cover a number of topics including: introducing animals to therapy and changes to the frame; ethical considerations and maintaining safety in the space; things that can go wrong; and analysis of the therapeutic benefits and impacts of animals in therapy such as creating "a third", attachment and transference. Speakers will address these issues by way of clinical examples.
