Elisabeth Shaw - Conflicts of interest, confluences of interest, and managing the unforeseen and unpredictable
Contact Anne Malecki
Professional training and codes will offer some regulation for managing relationships in service delivery. However, transgressions still occur both opportunistically, through misadventure and by surprise. Rules and guidelines offer some scaffolding, but are rarely sufficient. Of greater benefit is the professional and personal maturity of the therapist, which is a state of being achieved over the course of one’s life, not in any one seminar. Developing principles of practice rather than rules of practice will also guide us to develop practice wisdom, when the rules seem to not apply (or so we might tell ourselves). In this seminar we will open up this topic within a frame of professional ethics and ethical maturity, using practice examples and in discussion with seminar participants.
